Job Description:


1. Role and Purpose:

Plans and supervise the work of subordinates plant staff engaged in the planned maintenance and repair of different machines and equipment.

Diagnoses cause of equipment failure and arrange for the necessary repairs, ensuring that the proper spares parts are made available and that the recommended tolls are used.

2. Principle Duties

a) Plans the activities of his subordinates.

b) Reviews on a daily basis repair works to be carried out and the priorities to him by his supervisor. Schedules the work and assigns it to his subordinates accordingly.

c) Checks the equipment to be repaired, diagnoses the faults, and instructs his subordinates in the repair procedure to be followed. Accordingly, he identifies and requisitions the necessary spare parts.

d) Supervises the performance of repair works, and provides work directions to his subordinates. Checks all completed works and verify that the repaired equipment is in sound and safe operational condition.

e) Instructs mechanics in the repair and maintenance of new or sophisticated equipment.

f) Maintains records of major repair work carried out for each equipment.

g) Monitors on a continuous basis the implementation of planned maintenance programs, ensuring that proper records are kept, and programs are strictly adhered to.


3. Independence of Operation

Reports to the Section Engineer (Plant) whom he keeps informed of the progress of work, and obtains his clearance before undertaking any major repair and/or overhaul.

4. Supervision of Others

Is responsible for the day to day allocation of work to this subordinates and for the supervision of their performance.

5. Work Contacts

Has routine contract with his supervisor and frequent contact with equipments users for equipment performance purpose.

6. Minimum Requirements

8 years schooling followed by the equivalent of 2 years full time course at an accredited trade school in the mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance of construction equipment. Diversified experience (12 to 15 years) covering al types of construction equipment including proven competence as supervisor.

Good working knowledge of English (to read equipment manuals, parts list and repair instructions).
